Lumosity Brain App Launched on iPad

Lumosity launched its first iPad app on Thursday, bringing its cognitive training program to additional electronic devices.

With a focus on games that help users to improve skills such as memory or learning, Lumosity has taken off over the past couple of years. The company has added 6 million additional members since June 2011 for a total of 20 million registered users.

The company launched its first iPad app Thursday, further expanding its digital presence after introducing its first iPhone app in June of last year. In just over a year, the Lumosity app has been downloaded over 20 million times, according to Yahoo Finance. A recently refreshed iPhone also "boosted ongoing mobile user engagement rates 250 percent," according to the report.

Such promising figures have landed Lumosity as the no. 1 app downloaded in the education category for game on iTunes. In the past month alone, the app has been downloaded over 2 million times.

"Lumosity is like a gym for your brain, and to ensure that our users get the most benefit from the program, we've created a mobile experience that makes it convenient and fun to work out your brain from anywhere and at any time," Kunal Sarkar, CEO of Lumosity, told Yahoo. "We're committed to encouraging healthy habit formation and lifelong brain health, and mobile brain training is integral in helping us reach that goal."

And those who have downloaded the app do not appear to be disappointed. The Lumosity iPhone app has earned over 2,000 user reviews and still averages a full, five-star rating.

"I was looking for a fun app to pass the time. However, all the games are usually boring or I lose interest. This app challenges me with fun mini games to improve my brain. I thought the ads were just annoying online and on TV but I was wrong this app is fun," one user wrote in an iTunes review.
