MacOS High Sierra 10.13 Features, Problems: Is It Worth Updating?
The latest MacOS version is finally out with its own plethora of updates. There isn't much to be excited about High Sierra mainly because most of the improvements were done under the hood.
Since operating system updates are free, they have been about fixing internal issues just as much as they are adding new features. The MacOS 10.13 seems to follow this norm with its lack of awesome new features.
The new version adds the ability to edit iPhone's Live Photos in Photos. and really fast file copying on SSDs. Safari also gets the autoplay blocking feature which is certainly something that will make upgrading worth it. Other than that however, not much has changed when compared to Sierra with both version's performance being virtually identical. So is it still worth it to upgrade? Of course it is.
For one, it doesn't cost a dime and for users who value security above all else, updating will certainly give them peace of mind.
Updating is also recommended if their system is an SSD, not a Fusion Drive or HDD or have upgraded their iPhone or iPad to iOS 11 and shoot photos and videos with the new file formats.
Apple also laid the internal groundwork for future updates as well with the update although they give users very little in terms of benefits at least for the moment. However, upgrading will certainly make getting future upgrades a breeze.
It is advised that users allow a few days to pass and not jump right into High Sierra. While there's no doubt that Apple has been hard at work with the new MacOS, it is still a good idea to let a few brave souls test it out for issues rather than dealing with any potential headaches that could come with a new software.
Users should also check their current apps if they are compatible with High Sierra since there are changes to SKEL (Secure Kernel Extension Loading) that may make it difficult or impossible to install some applications in the beginning.
