'Mad Max: Fury Road' Sequel News: Director George Miller Has Written Two Other 'Mad Max' Movies
With the huge success of "Mad Max: Fury Road" (2015), it comes as no surprise that at least two more sequels for the action film are being planned.
On top of that, "Fury Road" director George Miller has again reiterated that he has already written two more "Mad Max" stories. Speaking from the Loyola Marymount's School of Film and TV for The Hollywood Reporter's ongoing interview series "The Hollywood Masters" on Friday, Jan. 29, Miller replied to the question of whether or not there will be a sequel to "Fury Road," saying, "Because ["Mad Max: Fury Road"] got delayed so often, and we dug down deep into the backstory, Nick Lathouris and I have written two other stories."
He added: "One is a full script. It doesn't have a title. And one of them we talked about in great detail and he wrote as a novella."
But before he helms another "Mad Max" major motion picture, he wants to do "something small and quick." "I've joked 'Mad Max: Fury Lane,'" he teased.
The award-winning director, who won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature for "Happy Feet" in 2006 and who was nominated for an Oscar Best Director for "Fury Road" in 2015, also talked about the long process of getting "Fury Road" to the big screen.
Speaking about a previous attempt to make "Justice League," which he was attached to direct, Miller said: "We almost got there. And it wasn't to be. But that happens a lot, where films line up and the stars look like they're aligning and they didn't." This, he said, was what happened to "Fury Road" - and not just once, but three times.
Fans of the "Mad Max" films should then keep their fingers crossed that the planned sequels for the film are able to push through. Tom Hardy revealed in 2015 that he is attached to play the lead in four more "Mad Max" films.
