Man Had Knife in Shoe, Says TSA: Detroit Airport Passenger Arrested
A man had a knife in his shoe when he attempted to get through the TSA screening process and onto an airplane Sunday, according to reports. Authorities came to the Detroit Metropolitan Airport in Romulus, Michigan and arrested the man.
The man with the knife in his shoe concealed the weapon by hiding it in the bottom rubber lining of his footwear, the Transportation Security Administration told the Associated Press. Police responded to the situation and arrested him, but did not release his name to the general public for unknown reasons.
The knife should have been placed in checked luggage if the man intended to take it with him, the TSA stated.

Though the TSA's vigilance when it comes to screening passengers prevailed Sunday, other times it has worked directly against them. One Transportation Security Administration official disarmed a sock monkey at the St. Louis, Mo. airport last year, leading to bad publicity for the agency.
"She said, 'this is a gun,'" Phyllis May, who makes sock dolls in Redmond, Washington, told KTVB. "I said no, it's not a gun it's a prop for my monkey." The TSA agent told May she would have to confiscate the gun, even though it was about the size of three quarters— far too tiny to ever fire a shot.
"She said, 'If I held it up to your neck, you wouldn't know if it was real or not,' and I said 'really?'" May recalled.
In another incident last year, a disabled 3-year-old was detained on her way to Disney World after TSA stopped her for additional screening. Annie Schulte, the girl's mother, said that they prevented her from recording the incident.
"The problem is I don't allow anyone to touch my little daughter without being able to record it," she said.
"It bothers me that my daughter was singled out, specifically because she is in a wheelchair," Nathan Forck said.
After the incident the TSA issued an apology.
