McLaren 720S News: Model Breaks 10-Second Speed Record

The new McLaren 720S broke its own record and ran a quarter mile in less than 10 seconds.

YouTube channel DragTimes posted the McLaren 720S in action, breaking its own record of reaching a quarter mile in 10.3 seconds. In the video, the McLaren 720S drove a quarter mile in only 9.98 seconds at 141 mph.

Inquisitr adds that what makes this new record interesting for the McLaren 720S is that it was not equipped with the right road tires for drag racing, along with having bad weather during the test.

Aside from the wrong tires and bad weather, CarBuzz includes that the McLaren 720S is not really a car for drag racing. The reason behind it is because the McLaren 720S is a rear-wheel-drive vehicle, which hinders itself to achieve maximum potential on a drag track.

Forbes also notes that aside from its newest accomplishment, the McLaren SuperSeries successor appears to be the best in the market among its competitors.

With a new record of reaching a quarter mile in only 9.98 seconds, the McLaren 720S can run 60 mph from rest in 2.8 seconds. It can also go as much as 212 mph due to the model's 4.0 liter, twin-turbo 710 hp V8 mid-mounted engine.

The McLaren 720S is also lightweight for its kind, because of the carbon fiber chassis, although its dry weight amounts to 2,828 lbs.

At the back, the McLaren 720S has enough trunk space that can hold two airline sized carry-on luggage bags, allowing enough room for baggage. The interior of the McLaren SuperSeries model is lined with fine leather and aluminum switches, giving it a more elegant and sleeker look compared to the 650S.

Another cherry at the top of the McLaren 720S is its gull-wing doors, adding a futuristic and stylish design to the model.

According to Car and Driver, the McLaren 720S is priced at $288,845.
