Mercy Ships Responds to Tsunami Disaster
Mercy Ships, a global charity, has operated a growing fleet of hospital ships in developing nations since 1978. Mercy Ships is responding to the disaster that struck Asia. There is hope, states Mercy Ships.
Mercy Ships is helping to restore the local people to their livelihoods as quickly as possible. Because many of the costal fishermen in Sri Lanka lost their boats and nets when the enormous waves struck, they are purchasing new fishing boats and nets for the fishermen in the hopes that this will provide the immediate economic relief needed to begin recovery.
Mercy Ship's website states that they are disciples of Jesus. "Following the example of Jesus, Mercy Ships brings hope and healing to the poor, mobilizing people and resources worldwide."
In addition, Mercy Ships sent desperately needed medical supplies a few days after the calamity struck. The Director of Mercy Ships Germany flew to Sri Lanka the day after the tsunami and is overseeing the distribution of the supplies.
