Michael Vick Talks DeSean Jackson Coming to New York Jets
Michael Vick is officially a member of the New York Jets and spoke about the possibilities of getting wide receiver Desean Jackson to join him.
While veteran quarterback Vick,33, came to the Jets from the Philadelphia Eagles recently, he is already speaking to reporters about the possibilities of his former teammate Jackson joining him.
"If there's an opportunity to get DeSean, I'm pretty sure the New York Jets fans would be in favor of that," Vick told reporters. "But who knows, it takes a lot to make a trade happen (with) all of the intricacies of a contract. It's not for us as players to decide. But hopefully everything will work out for DeSean. If he ends up in New York, we'll be happy, just as happy as he will be. But who knows, you can't say."
While former starting QB Mark Sanchez has been cut from the team, Vick will still have to compete against second year QB Geno Smith for the starting position next season. However, it seems he welcomes the challenge.
"I think it's open competition every day," Vick said, according to NFL.com.
While Vick has signed on with the Jets for a one year deal, Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg is expressing the team's excitement after previously working with Vick on the Eagles for four seasons.
"We are excited to acquire Michael Vick. He's a great talent who's won many games, including playoff games, in this league," Mornhinweg said in a statement obtained by CBS sports. "He's here in a role where he's going to compete and push Geno Smith to become the very best that he can be. Michael will be able to go in and play at a high level and a winning level if called upon."
