Mike Pence Will Not Eat Alone With Any Woman Other Than His Wife

Social media is abuzz over a little-known fact about Mike Pence and his wife that was publicized by a newspaper. The vice president was quoted to have said that he doesn't dine alone with women other than his wife nor does he attend events with alcohol served without her by his side.

The Washington Post feature offered tidbits on Karen Pence's character and the influence she wields on her husband. But the vice president's controversial "rule" on dealing with women had been published long ago — in 2002, to be exact; and was picked up by Indianapolis Star last year for its report on the Trump campaign.

The article cited rules Pence upheld during his 12 years in Congress to avoid rumors of impropriety, including not dining alone with a woman other than his wife and not drinking alcohol without her.

"If there's alcohol being served and people are being loose, I want to have the best-looking brunette in the room standing next to me," he said that time.

The revelation drew mixed reactions belatedly. Some netizens said that if that's the case, Pence isn't fit to become president because he cannot sit down in one-on-one dinners with Theresa May or Angela Merkel, prime ministers of Britain and Germany, respectively.

But there are also those who don't see anything wrong with Pence's sense of propriety.

"Seriously, what's the appropriate reason for a married person to go out for a meal alone with a member of the other sex (outside of family)?" conservative blogger Mark Walsh tweeted. "If you laugh at Pence for respecting his marriage, it's probably because you've never been in a healthy one."

The vice president is Karen's second husband. They were married in a Catholic church in 1985 and later became Evangelical Christians. The couple's faith is seen to have an influence on Pence's conservative stand on policies like gay marriage and religious freedom.
