Milo Ventimiglia Says Viewers Should Pay Attention to the Dog in 'This Is Us'
"This Is Us" star Milo Ventimiglia wants fans of the show to pay great attention to the dog recently featured on the show's premiere episode.
Jack Pearson, Ventimiglia's character on the show, is probably one of the most beloved characters on television today, and how he dies is definitely one of the biggest TV mysteries. Now, with "This Is Us" finally entering its sophomore season, the show has revealed a lot of clues as to how Jack may have died.
In the first episode of season 2, the Pearson house was shown to be in ruins after a terrible fire. But aside from that obvious giveaway, Ventimiglia also wants viewers to focus on one subtle clue — a dog.
In the episode, a teenage Kate could be seen crying while Randall comforts him while they are both seated on a couch. With them was a redheaded girl and a dog, both of which have yet to be formally introduced to the viewers of the show. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ventimiglia revealed that the dog on the episode provides a clue as to how much time had passed since Jack had left.
"I know [creator Dan Fogelman] has said it, but if you look at that last segment with the teen Big Three and Miguel — there's a dog. Whose dog is it? You never heard about a dog," Ventimiglia told EW.
The show hasn't featured a family dog on the show before, and now, it's giving the little puppy quite a big role.
Fans of the show have even theorized that the dog is deeply connected to Jack's impending death. A Redditor who goes by the pseudonym RBlaske has a theory that when the Pearson house first caught on fire, he managed to get out safely with his family with the dog getting trapped in the house. A young Kate may have grown quite attached to the dog and wanted her father to save it. Jack, being the devoted father, runs back to the house and manages to save the dog but at the cost of his life, which is why Kate is blaming herself for the Pearson patriarch's death.
