Mindy McCready and Son Found Hiding In Closet
Mindy McCready and her five-year-old son have been found by officials hiding in a closet in a Herber Springs, Arkansas home. Just four days before, they had been declared missing. The boy has been taken into custody.
Authorities reported McCready and her son, Zander, missing on Wednesday saying they disappeared from her father's Cape Coral, Florida home on Tuesday evening.
The country star said in a statement to the Associated Press that she could not return Zander to his father’s home in Florida as ordered by the court because she is currently pregnant with twins. The father, according to the Daily News is her music producer and boyfriend of two years David Wilson.
"I'm a mom first. No matter what happens, I'm going to protect my kid. If I have to go to jail, so be it." McCready’s mother actually has custody of her son Zander. McCready accused her mother of abusing her son; a claim which her mother adamantly denies.
The former "Celebrity Rehab" patient has had many hardships and run- ins with the law. In 2004, she was charged with prescription drug fraud and sentenced to three years of supervised probation and 200 hours of community service.
In 2005, she was arrested and charged with DUI and driving with a suspended license. Just a few days later, her ex-boyfriend William McKnight was charged with attempted murder and aggravated burglary after she alleged he broke into her home and beat her up.
Weeks after that, McCready was charged in Arizona with identity theft, unlawful imprisonment and hindering prosecution. In September 2005, McCready attempted suicide again, the first noted of several suicide attempts, by reportedly taking 30 antidepressants while pregnant by McKnight.
Two years later, she served a few months in jail for violating probation of a resisting arrest charge which occurred during an argument with her mother.
This year, McCready claimed she had an affair with Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens when she was just 15.
"I did not steal my child, as it would be impossible for me to kidnap what already belongs to me," she told Access Hollywood via email. "There never was any missing persons report and never an Amber Alert."
