'Minions' Movie Release Date: Minions Come Face to Face With Super Villain Scarlett Overkill
A new trailer for the "Minions" movie has been released, and the yellow henchmen get a chance to meet and work for the most popular super villain in the world.
In the new trailer for "Minions," it's 1968, which is 42 years B.G. (Before Gru), and the three minions—Stuart, Kevin, and Bob—are standing on the side of the road as they attempt to hitchhike to Orlando. A family on the way to Orlando picks them up, and as it turns out, they're on their way to Villain Con, a convention where the most notorious people come to bask in the love and adoration of their fans, and where attendees can apply as henchmen through the Henchmen Placement Agency. The little girl points out Scarlett Overkill as her favorite villain, and that if ever she is given the chance to be a super villain, she would grow up to be like her. This gives the minions the idea to meet Scarlett.
The minions then come face to face with the most famous villain of all—Scarlett Overkill, and she takes the minions to her mansion where she promises them all the perks that they could get once they start working for her.
"Respect! Power! Banana!" Scarlett growls.
"Minions" is the newest entry into the successful animated franchise following the two "Despicable Me" movies which were released in 2010 and 2013. A third "Despicable Me" movie is slated for release in 2017.
The spinoff tells of the origin of Gru's yellow henchmen, which reveals that the Minions have been around on Earth for millions of years and have served countless evil masters over that period of time.
Sandra Bullock voices Scarlett Overkill, while "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm provides the voice of Scarlett's inventor husband, Herb Overkill. Joining the main voice cast are Michael Keaton, Allison Janney, and Steve Coogan.
"Minions" will be released in theaters on July 10, 2015.
