'Mirror's Edge Catalyst' Delayed For 3 Months

Fans of the "freerunning" and open-world game "Mirror's Edge Catalyst" will not be able to get their hands on it as originally scheduled in February 2016. According to the game's producer, Sara Jansson, they have decided delay the game's release to three months, giving it a new release day of May 26, 2016. In the game's website, she wrote, "We will use these few extra months to make sure that when you step into the massive City of Glass and experience the rise of Faith, it's as entertaining, impressive, and memorable as it can be."

"Mirror's Edge Catalyst," which is a reboot of the original "Mirror's Edge" 2008 game, was hinted during the E3 2013. During this year's E3, it was showcased with a new open-world environment and online elements, creating the much needed hype for the game to become one of the most anticipated releases in 2016.

Electronic Arts, the game's developer, seems to be taking an earlier statement they had made seriously that they would not hesitate to postpone releases if they see the need to, according to another report in PC Gamer. The report also noted that three months is not too long, considering that it took EA two years to develop the game.

The upcoming game is described in a preview in The Koalition as more "refined" in its look and design compared to its predecessor game. The City of Glass and the buildings that make up the city look better mainly because the Frostbite 3 game engine "made the stylized visuals of the world look fantastic and grander in scale," the report said.

The preview also noted a difference in terms of gameplay. The first game was designed to be linear, having the player go through certain levels before reaching the next ones. "Mirror's Edge Catalyst," however, is more "open-ended," giving the player freedom to go where he wants to go and to do missions and challenges that he chooses.

On May 24, 2016, the game will be available for the current generation consoles – the Xbox One and the PS4 – and PC. An accompanying art book titled "The Art of Mirror's Edge" will also be made available, with never before seen artwork of Faith, the game's protagonist, as well as commentaries from the game's designers.
