'Mirror's Edge Catalyst' News: Game Release Delayed To May 2016
"Mirror's Edge Catalyst," the much-awaited reboot of the 2008 action-adventure platform game "Mirror's Edge," has been pushed back to May 2016 from its original release date of February 2016. Game developer DICE made the announcement through a blog post, according to a report in Eurogamer. The developer said that the three months' extra will give them more than enough time to perfect the game's open world.
The first-person action game features what is called "freerunning" through the City of Glass, the fictional setting of the game. As in the first game, this upcoming reboot will also feature a female protagonist, Faith, who serves as a courier for revolutionary groups working against the totalitarian city government. Faith relies on her ability to deliver messages without being tracked down by government forces, and she does this by running, jumping over obstacles, sliding under barriers, wall-running and the like.
According to senior producer Sara Jansson in the blog post, making the open world that Faith will be playing in takes time. She also said, "We're building the most immersive action-adventure game with fluid movement and combat in first person. Mirror's Edge Catalyst will be an all-new playground with a deeper and more engaging story - and we want to accomplish all these goals to the highest quality possible."
The game, however, features something different about Faith this time. According to a video preview of the game by Eurogamer, the first thing they noted was Faith's non-use of weapons, particularly guns, in the game, which is unlike the first game. This is somehow tied to what the preview said may be the likely backstory of Faith. Faith, in the second game, may have likely discovered that Kruger Sec, one of the corporations who exercise totalitarian control over the city and its citizens, is brainwashing those who go against them and turn them into pawns of the corporation, such as the masked security guards of Kruger Sec. Because of this, Faith is hesitant to use any fatal force on them.
The game arrives on May 24, 2016 for the PC, the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
