Miss Universe 2015 News: Miss Myanmar Fell, But Recovered Gracefully During the Preliminary Competition

Pageant fans all over the world stay tuned last Wednesday on the Miss Universe website to watch the Preliminary Competition that will determine who will enter in this year's semifinals. One of the contestants, May Thaw of Myanmar, unfortunately fell on her bottom, but fans cheered her on, as she gracefully recovered from the mishap.

According to Rappler, Thaw was wearing towering high heels with her beautiful gown during the evening gown competition of the preliminaries, and was walking down the steps when the accident happen. She sat at the steps for a moment, before gracefully standing up, while clapping her hands. As she strut toward the middle of the stage, fans continued to cheer her on, and exited the stage without any further accidents.

This year's edition of the Miss Universe pageant is the first time that the competition is held with its new owner, which is WME/IMG. There are currently 80 ladies in the competition, and their performances during the preliminary competition in Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas will determine who will join the coveted top 15.

According to Missossology, a popular pageant forum, among the top 15 favorites this year and those who performed well in the preliminaries are the candidates from Denmark, France, Georgia, Peru, Japan, Venezuela, Colombia, India, Thailand, Dominican Republic, Vietnam, Australia, USA, Philippines, and Brazil.

Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, and Miss Vietnam, Pham Huong have the biggest online fan base, which will play an important part in this year's Miss Universe Pageant. According to the Miss Universe website, fans can now vote for their favorite candidate during the live coronation night, and the representative with the highest number of votes will automatically enter the semifinals. The new Miss Universe 2015 will be crowned by outgoing Miss Universe 2014, Paulina Vega from Colombia, this Sunday, Dec. 20. The pageant night will be broadcast live on Fox at 7-10 p.m. ET.
