MMA News 2016: Holly Holm Gets New UFC Contract; Colorado Fighter Paralyzed By Police

UFC bantamweight queen Holly Holm just signed a recent contract extension with the world's most prominent mixed martial arts promotion company.

In a report by Brett Okamoto for ESPN.com, Holm's manager, Lenny Fresquez, announced that "The Preacher's Daughter" has signed a contract extension but did not delve into the specifics of the new agreement.

"We have officially signed a multiyear extension with the UFC," Fresquez said in an interview with the said media outlet. "That's all I can verify right now. We've signed an extension, and we're very happy with the extension."

Holm rose to overnight mainstream superstardom after November 15th at UFC 193, after she defeated former champion Ronda Rousey in front of more than 56,000 people in attendance at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.

Holm finished Rousey off with one left kick to the jaw, ending Rousey's three-year reign as champion. It also marked Rousey's first loss since she began her professional career in 2011.

In another interview with MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani during Monday's edition of The MMA Hour, Holm says she is more inclined to be fighting sooner than the scheduled rematch with Rousey at UFC 200, which will take place in July.

"If I fight sooner rather than later, it won't be a rematch. But there's still a possibility for a rematch," Holm said in the interview. "We'll wait and see how it unfolds."

Meanwhile, a local mixed martial arts fighter in Colorado is looking to file a case against police officers for inflicting physical injuries that resulted to his partial paralysis.

In a report by The Pueblo Chieftain, officers from the La Junta Police Department arrested 24-year-old Donovan Duran on December 7th in response to a call from the fighter's own family for being "drunk and disorderly."

Despite the complaints, no charges were filed against Duran.

In another report by Bloody Elbow, doctors revealed that Duran will likely be unable to walk again due to the spinal cord injury he sustained.
