'Modern Family' Season 6 Spoilers News: Midseason Premiere 'The Day We Almost Died' Recap
The midseason premiere of "Modern Family" gives a new meaning to resolutions as the Dunphy family and Manny resolve to change a few things after a near death experience.
On the show's last episode, Haley celebrated her 21st birthday in a bar with her mother, Cam, Mitchell, and Gloria, and she decided that what she really wanted for her birthday is a tattoo. Claire, wanting Haley to see her not only as a mother but as her friend, agrees, and even says yes to matching tattoos for her and her daughter. But once Claire got her tattoo, Haley backs out of it.
On last Wednesday's episode titled "The Day We Almost Died," Claire and Phil are in their minivan with Alex, Haley, Luke, and Manny at the back. The level of noise in the vehicle is deafening as Haley and Alex bicker, Manny and Luke talk, and Claire and Phil are on their respective phones. Then, a truck runs a stop sign and zips in front of the minivan, which makes Phil swerve, and the vehicle spins once before stopping.
The near-death experience shakes everyone up, and everyone resolves to change what they can about themselves.
Claire decided that she needed to be less controlling and that she should be more spontaneous, so she asks Mitchell to go rollerblading with her. However, they get mugged while rollerblading in a tunnel near the beach, and Mitchell ditches the rollerblades and goes back to work.
Haley thinks that she needs to stop fighting with Alex, and the two bond, which results to a makeover for Alex.
Phil decides to be a take-charge guy and stood up to Gil Thorpe. He also convinced the appliance store to give Cam the right dryer that he ordered.
Meanwhile, Manny appears to be suffering the most from the experience as he refuses to get into a car. Jay makes him drive the car, which he thinks will cure him of his phobia, but when Manny drove it scared Jay. Then Gloria tricks Manny into avenging the theft of her cellphone, which spurs Manny into action, and he forgets all about his fear of being in a vehicle.
"Modern Family" airs on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on ABC.
