Mother Thanked God Before Being Killed by Woman Wanting Her Newborn
The murdered mother of two children reportedly thanked God for a surprise blessing before being shot and killed by a woman who wanted the children for herself.
Natalia Roberts, 30, was surprised by a stranger's offer of free baby clothes and excitedly called her mother to relay the good news and blessing.
"She called her mother and told her that something real good had just happened. She was excited about the baby clothes that had been offered to her and how good God was," Roberts' uncle Benny Roberts told Channel 2 Action News on Friday, Sept. 26.
Roberts had just met Catherine Goins, 37, when Goins offered the baby clothes to the mother of a 3-week-old toddler. Roberts went to Goins' home in Georgia, where a sinister plan unfolded. As Roberts walked down the stairs of Goins' residence, Goins shot her in the back of the head. She later claimed that Roberts was an intruder and she had fired the gun in self-defense.
"She lured her there under the pretense of giving her some baby clothes for her newly born baby," Catoosa County sheriff Gary Sisk said at a press conference. "Once at the residence, Natalia was going down a flight of stairs where Catherine Goins shot her in the back of the head with a .380-calibur handgun."
Goins reportedly wanted to take the children and raise them as her own.
"Catherine Goins had been living a ruse that she was pregnant with her most recent boyfriend's baby, but he had recently learned she was not pregnant and left her," Sisk revealed. "Catherine Goins killed Natalia Roberts because she wanted her baby. Giving her the baby clothes was the story she used to get her to come back to the house. She had just met her, she saw that she had a baby, and Catherine Goins needed a baby."
The community was left stunned by the events, and the family buried Roberts on Friday. Goins, however, remains in jail without bond.
