Moto Z Play Updates: New Leaked Images Show Moto Mods, Fingerprint Sensor; Release Date, Rumors, and Specs Bared
Looks like another smartphone is coming to play in the arena and it's packed with new features and upgraded specs.
A slew of leaked images showed new details about the highly-anticipated Moto Z Play, the third member of Motorola's Moto Z and Moto Z Play series.
If the plaudits received by the Moto Z were anything to go by, then the upcoming Z Play which is a more economical version, may just earn the same praise. The photos clearly show that the Z Play has a near-identical design to the Z Force and Z, although the Z Play appears to sport a glass back panel instead of metal.

What to expect from the new Z Play
The photos hinted Moto Mod pin connectors and fingerprint sensors. It comes with a 5.5-inch screen and an AMOLED panel for brighter display while preserving battery life. The device is also rumored to have the standard 3.5mm jack, unlike its predecessors, and a USB-Type C charging port.
More specs: The Z Play also comes with a 1080p resolution, a 2GHz octacore processor, a 3GB RAM and a 64GB internal storage. It's said to run on Android Marshmallow and Snapdragon 625 processor. The phone is packed with a 3,510mAh battery and a 5-megapixel front and 16-megapixel rear cameras.
Other rumors include Motorola running Android 7.0 Nougat upgrade for the Moto Z Play Design.
Why we should be excited
In terms of specs, it is certainly classified as a high-end device, but the Z Play isn't exactly the best smartphone out there. But if rumors about the Z Play costing just $300 turn out to be true, then the Z Play might be one of the most affordable high-end smartphones out there.
With Motorola's focus on modular phones, it's no surprise that the Z Play comes with Moto Mod accessories. In case you're not familiar with it, the Moto Mods are a set of 16 magnetic pins on the back which allows you to snap your handset into audio speakers, video projects and more.
Lenovo and Motorola have already completed three mods: the JBL Soundboost, which amps up the audio speaker; Incipio's Power Pack, which comes with a 2,220mAh battery capacity; and the Insta-share Projector, which projects images and videos.
A mid-ranger modular phone like the Z Play means that customers may be more inclined to spend a few more bucks for the modular accessories - and that may just be the future of smartphones.
