Naya Rivera Dropped From Record Label After 'Glee' Firing? 'Absolutely False,' Says Rep
Naya Rivera is said to be considering taking legal action after reports surfaced on Friday claiming the singer and actress had been dropped by her record label.
On Tuesday reports claimed the "Glee" star, 27, had been "written out" of the season 5 finale and days later billboard.com claimed she is no longer on the Columbia Records roster. A rep for Rivera, who signed with Columbia in 2011, blasted all axing rumors as "false" and event threatened to pursue legal action over the matter.
"The newest story claiming that Naya Rivera was dropped from her recording contract with Columbia Records is absolutely false. If the 'news' outlets who put out this story had bothered to contact anyone from her team, they would have learned this was false," Rivera's rep said in a statement obtained by Us Weekly magazine.
"To be clear, any rumors or statements made as fact, that Naya Rivera was fired or let go from Glee or dropped from her recording contract, are categorically false," the statement continued. "Someone obviously has an agenda to damage Naya's good name and the media are failing at their duty to responsibly vet their sources and verify what is true and what is not. Naya's attorneys are prepared to take any and all legal action to enforce and protect her rights."
Rivera's debut single "Sorry" featuring her now ex-fiance Big Sean dropped in September. It reportedly sold an estimated 34,000 downloads and failed to chart on the Hot 100, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
On April 15 Rivera and her "Glee" co-star Lea Michele, 27, reportedly clashed on set due to Michele's alleged "diva" antics.
Insiders claim that while filming the "Cannonball" singer stalled production by constantly taking breaks to deal with personal matters which prompted Rivera to complain to producers. Rivera reportedly expressed frustration regarding Michele's "difficult" behavior which did not go down well, according to TMZ.com.
Some sources claim that upon learning about Rivera's complaint to producers, Michele stormed off set, however, others maintain that it was actually Rivera who left in a state of fury. Shortly after news of their on-set dispute broke, rumors of Rivera's alleged axing from the show surfaced.
"They're always icy to each other ... Naya is jealous that Lea is the show's main star … There is a lot of sighing and eye-rolling between them," a source said with another adding "They talk behind each other's backs -- a lot."
Earlier this year Rivera and rapper Big Sean, 26, ended their engagement.
