NBA Live Mobile Gameplay and Updates for the NBA 2016-17 Season: Alley-Oops, Rookie Program Highlight New Game Update

It has been a great past few months for the sports video game industry, particularly for the NBA. 2K Sports had been the standard of basketball video games for years now and its latest offering, NBA 2K17, is shaping up to be a smash hit.

Loading up on new features, the console and PC game also dropped its mobile version in the App Store and Google Play last week at the price of $7.99; if only there was a free alternative.

Fortunately, there is. NBA Live Mobile had been in the market months ago and is a free-to-play delight. Players do not have to pay to progress in the game either, unlike other F2P apps. They also added new features and roster changes, just in time for the 2016-17 NBA season.

New features

NBALM had a lot of issues when it first launched worldwide months ago, but developer EA Sports thankfully stepped up to the plate. There have been vast improvements on shooting mechanics, including a much more tolerable shot meter and a limiter for rebounds turning into accidental shots.

Just like the other NBA 2K and NBA Live games, NBALM also upgraded its UI so users can see shot feedback or the rating of shot taken by their virtual players. It also improved on the defensive end. Users can now enjoy more realistic steal and block physics, while being able to drive and kick from the hoop without having to worry about an automatic steal from the AI.

Perhaps the most welcome change, however, is the new alley-oop feature. Due to popular demand, players can now make alley-oop dunks depending on the passer's passing rating and the dunker's dunk rating. A full list of feature changes can be found here.

Rookie Masters

With a new season comes new sets, and this time, the rookies take center stage. The Rookie Program includes players straight off the 2016 NBA Draft, led by No. 1 pick Ben Simmons.

Simmons, however, is the ultimate prize at the end of the Rookie Masters set, which requires 5 particular Elite rookies and the No. 1 Draft Pick collectible. In order to get collectibles for sets, users have to play with a limited edition Rookie lineup in live events.

Draft Pick collectibles can either be exchanged for Rookie packs to get new players or be exchanged for Gold and Elite Draft Picks. Elite picks and Gold Rookie Players may then be exchanged for an Elite Rookie Player.
