NBA News 2015: Sixers Acquire Pelicans' Ish Smith; Knicks' Derrick Williams Missing More Than $600K Worth Of Jewelry

The Philadelphia 76ers have pulled out all the stops to acquire point guard Ish Smith from the New Orleans Pelicans.

In a report by NBC Sports, the Sixers' newly hired lead assistant coach and former New York Knicks head coach Mike D'Antoni decided to trade two second-round picks for Smith. According to another report by NBA.com, the Sixers also released guard Tony Wroten, who is currently enduring an injury-plagued season.

D'Antoni was said to be impressed with the 27-year-old player's capabilities, hence their decision to sign him. The NBC Sports report adds that according to sources, the Pelicans are not able to give quality minutes to Smith, especially with the return of Norris Cole from a 17-game absence to injury.

In the 28 games he has now played, Smith has averaged 9 points and 5.7 assists. The Sixers, on the other hand, are currently holding an abysmal 2-30 record in the 2015-2016 NBA regular season, so far. They last played against the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night, where they scored their second victory of the season with a score of 111-104.

They are scheduled to play the Utah Jazz on Monday.

Meanwhile, New York Knicks forward Derrick Williams recently lost some jewelry, which amounted to more than $600,000. In a report by NBA.com, the total amount reached $617,000 worth of jewelry, which was lost inside of his apartment in the TriBeCa neighborhood.

The items lost comprised of a diamond Rolex, which costs $50,000, three diamond rings that cost $30,000 and three 24-karat gold chains that cost a total of $35,000.

The report adds that New York police are now in search of two "well-dressed" women who were identified through a closed-circuit surveillance video footage on late Wednesday night.

The video showed two unidentified suspects who were seen leaving a club located in Manhattan's meatpacking district in the early hours of Saturday, December 19th.

As of this posting, Williams has not made any statements regarding the incident.
