'New Girl' Season 5 Cast News: Megan Fox Will Be the 'New Girl;' EP Answered Fans Who Criticized the Show's Decision to Cast Fox
Since it was announced that Megan Fox will join the cast of the hit sitcom "New Girl," fans have not been happy about the news. Many have criticized the show's decision to cast the "Transformers" star; however, the executive producer of the show, Elizabeth Meriweather, finally answered fans' complaints.
According to Deadline, Meriweather thinks that Fox is perfect for her role. "I've been a fan of her comedic skills since 'This Is 40,' and I'm so excited to have her on the show. We had Megan in mind when we wrote this part — she's the perfect person to come in and shake these guys up." The executive producer also said that it would be a crazy idea to have "such a gorgeous person" to be so funny, which is why the show decided to cast Fox.
Although appearing on the show as the "new girl," Fox will not completely replace the show's lead actress, Zooey Deschanel, who is currently on maternity leave. According to Cross Map, the show's production did not immediately stop after filming the end of "New Girl's" fourth season, specifically after they've learned that Deschanel is pregnant. The website added that Fox's character, Reagan, who's a pharmaceutical sales rep, will only appear starting episode 5, and the 29-year-old actress was already spotted on the set of "New Girl" in Los Angeles last month.
According to People, Deschanel's character, Jess, will be put on a sequestered jury duty, while she's on leave. Jess will still appear in the first episode of season 5, up until episode 4. Deschanel said that Jess' roommates will decide to have her room rented out for a few weeks, and that's where Reagan will come to the characters' lives. Reagan is described as someone who will "shake things up in the loft."
The new season of "New Girl" will premiere next year on Fox.
