'New Mutants' Release Date, Latest News: Film's First Trailer Rolls Out

The trailer for the upcoming film "New Mutants" is finally here.

When it comes to the Marvel universe and the term "mutants," most people would think about highly evolved human beings with extraordinary powers along with an exhilarating plotline perfect for the action sci-fi genre. However, that isn't what "New Mutants" is all about, as per the recently released trailer.

While the mutants are closely associated with the ever so popular Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, it seems that "New Mutants" will be straying away from the institution favoring the cold dark recesses of an insane asylum.

The news of a coming trailer was first revealed by "New Mutants" director, Josh Boone, himself. In an Instagram post, the 38-year-old director/screenwriter shared an image containing the time, 12:01 am PST, which fans quickly assumed to be the release of "The New Mutants" trailer. Certainly, Boone did not disappoint as a trailer quickly followed.

The filming for the upcoming "New Mutants" had just recently wrapped so it was only a matter of time before a trailer is released. As for how the movie will be like, actress Anya Joy-Taylor, who plays Magik in the film, has revealed that "New Mutants" will be different from the "X-men" films but in some ways will also stay faithful.

"Whilst it's definitely a departure from the X-Men movies, the fans won't be disappointed," Taylor-Joy says. "We definitely kept all the important bits in there," the actress added.

There is not much known about the "X-men" spin-off as of writing, other than the fact that it will be centered on a horror scenario. The film features a younger generation of mutants who are locked up in a secret facility where they are observed and experimented. This is where their powers would surface and they must use it to escape their captors.

The film stars "Game of Thrones" actress Masie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Henry Zaga, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga and Blue Hunt. "New Mutants" is coming to cinemas April 13, 2018.
