New Orleans Saints to Remain Active Heading Into the NFL Draft

The New Orleans Saints may not be rebuilding on the fly, or at least they are not admitting to it. There is a lot of evidence that they merely made the moves they have made this off season to get their salary cap situation under control. They have repeatedly said that QB Drew Brees is not available, and that may end up being true. What is known is the Saints have loaded up on draft picks in their off season dealings, that means they could make a move to get one of the top QB prospects or simply restock the cubbard for the QB already on their roster.

As it stands the Saints have five picks in the first 78 picks of next month's NFL draft. That gives them lots of pieces to trade away and or use the picks to invest in some young talent. Three of those picks are in the top 50 and that means they could land some very talented players if they choose to invest those picks.

At some point the Saints are going to have to replace Brees, and at some point they are going to want relief from his immense salary cap hit. While they probably don't have enough ammunition to get one of the top two QB's in this year's draft, they are not all that far off either.

Sports Illustrated is reporting that they expect the Saints to remain active up to and during the draft. The rumors right now are circulating around defensive end Cameron Jordan and Guard Jahri Evans. The team is looking at the appropriate contract numbers for both players but may let one or both go if a trade partner can be found. Evans is set to make $7.5 million in 2015 and the Saints want to find out how much of that he will give up.
