Nexus 9 Rolling Out on India First, 29 Other Countries Follow in Next Few Weeks
Google just unveiled its new devices as well as its new Android OS Wednesday earlier this week and is looking to rival Apple's own device and operating system. The new Nexus 6 – made by Motorola – is standing against the iPhone 6 Plus and the Nexus 9 tablet – made by HTC – is going head to head with the iPad.
The Nexus 9 tablet has been the subject of rumors over the last few months with speculations ranging from the size of its screen, its specs, and who the manufacturer is. It seems that some speculations leading up to the release have been accurate as HTC indeed was at the helm of the tablet's creation.
While the tablet has been unveiled, it will be available on Nov. 3 with pre-orders already going on. India gets to have the tablet first with over 29 countries getting the tablet over the next few weeks.
The Nexus 9 has an 8.9-inch IPS LCD display with a screen resolution of 2048 x 1536. It's now powered by the 64-bit Nvidia Tegra K1 chipset instead of the usual Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets. It has a quad-core 2.3GHz processor, a Kepler DX1 GPU and is one of the first devices to run the newly released Android 5.0 (or Android L).
The tablet is available in 16GB and 32GB versions and has 2GB of RAM. Unfortunately, there is no microSD card support.
Regarding pricing, there is still no solid confirmation on how much the tablet will cost in other countries but in the U.S., the 16GB model costs $399 while the 32GB model costs $479.
