NFL News and Player Updates 2016: Notre Dame's DeShone Kizer Tops 2017 QB Prospects

The 2017 NFL Draft is a year away and the 2016 season just kicked off. Picks from the 2016 Draft Class are only beginning to make a mark on the league.

No. 1 pick Jared Goff is yet to have a consistent place in the Los Angeles Rams lineup, and is being criticized for not being prepared enough for the big league. No. 2 pick Carson Wentz, meanwhile, currently has the highest-selling jersey in his first year, filling the shoes of Sam Bradford at the Philadelphia Eagle starting lineup.

As of late, Wentz is primed as the centerpiece to a turnaround at Philadelphia and may become the best player to come out of his draft class. Of course, he comes from the quarterback spot - one of the most crucial in the NFL. The same spot had been held by football great Peyton Manning, Patriots star Tom Brady and Manning's supposed heir, Cam Newton.

Next year, the draft at Philadelphia might produce the next big thing at the quarterback position, led by a potential No. 1 overall pick. Bleacher Report's Matt Miller ranks the top QB prospects for next season, led by two closely-contending college standouts.

Deshone Kizer (Notre Dame)

Kizer looks to have the highest upside among draft prospects for next year. His size and arm strength, as well as his passing ability, solidified a consistent presence for his team early in his college season.

Another aspect that entices the league is Kizer's expansive set of skills, playing baseball and basketball alongside football. While winning the conference championship for his Central Catholic baseball team, he also made rounds on the basketball court, using his size and intelligent passing as a point guard. In fact, Kizer's abilities reportedly put him above his closest competitor in the draft.

DeShaun Watson (Clemson)

Watson led next year's draft prospects until recently, going through a bad start with Clemson. The Heisman Trophy contender personally apologized for his inefficient performance as of late, but it seems as though it was not entirely his fault.

He had been Clemson's Superman during his first two years in college, playing tremendous football while maintaining his cheerful attitude when facing the media. But all the attention on his game applied a lot of pressure on the young man and messed up his game. Still, Clemson is 2-0 for the season, with more than enough time for Superman to make a comeback.

Miami's Brad Kaaya trails the two, but looks to be the readiest once he enters the NFL. Chad Kelly from Ole Miss and C.J. Beathard of Iowa take the No. 4 and 5 spots, respectively.
