Nutritional Drink May Help Memory Problems in People with Early Dementia

A nutritional drink has been recently put out in the market with the aim to detect the early stages of Alzheimer's disease.

The said product's name is called LipiDiDiet, a European drug, which according to its official website, "addresses the impact of Nutritional Lipids on Neuronal and Cognitive Performance in Aging, Alzheimer's disease and Vascular Dementia."

The main ingredient in LipiDiDiet is Fortasyn Connect, which is a combination of fatty acids and other vitamins.

According to a report by Alzheimer's.org, the said ingredient was given to several people with memory problems, but were not severe enough to be declared as dementia. The ingredient was given to the test subjects for a period of two years, and as the report had stated, shown no difference in cognitive performance among them.

What had been the changer, though, was that people who took the supplement did show an improvement in terms of episodic memory. Another result of the test among the supplement-takers was that they showed reduced brain-shrinkage, particularly in the hippocampus, the region which is responsible for restoring memories.

Dr. James Pickett, the Head of Research of Alzheimer's Society noted that while the supplement did generate some form of improvements among those who took it, the study still was not considered as an overall success since the evidence for it to supposedly slow Alzheimer's disease, as well as improvements in cognitive development are not yet strong enough.

Dr. Pickett adds that the main key to avoiding the said disease is to still try and live a healthier, well-balanced lifestyle.

"People worried about their memory should visit their GP for advice," Dr. Pickett said. "If early Alzheimer's disease is suspected, this supplement is one option for people to try, along with taking regular exercise, avoiding smoking and eating a healthy, balanced diet to keep their memory sharp."

There is no particular prescription needed to get hold of LipiDiDiet, as it is can be bought over the counter.
