The Samsung Gear VR headset is the closest device that resemble the Oculus Rift VR's function and looks, though there are reports that the two devices may not work in the same way.

While the Gear VR requires another device to power it such as the Galaxy Note 4 or the new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge phones, the Gear VR headset may not need such high-powered and expensive devices to let it running.

However, the report mentioned that Oculus' announcement mentioned a "fully-integrated hardware/software tech stack designed specifically for virtual reality."

Since the Kickstarter campaign of the Oculus Rift VR headset, the device has once again revived talks that the once impossible and sci-fi technologies are becoming to be a reality in this day and age.

But while the function and features of such devices are indeed promising, no one can tell whether they'd be able to deliver the same results until they actually hit the market.
