Oculus Touch Launch Delayed To 2nd Half Of 2016

When virtual reality headsets such as the Oculus Rift were being developed, many consumers started getting excited about the possibilities of virtual reality in gaming as well as other applications. While gaming consoles such as the Xbox One are already developing controllers made for use with the new VR headsets, specially designed controllers are also in the works.

One such controller is the Oculus Touch, which designed to work with the Oculus Rift. While the Oculus Rift headset is on time in terms of production, the commercial release of the Oculus Touch has been delayed to the latter part of 2016, according to a Tech Times report.

Like the Oculus Rift, excitement is already mounting as to the possibilities that this hand controller system will bring to any virtual reality experience. In an official post on the Oculus website, the team behind the controller cited that they needed "more time" to perfect Touch. They particularly mentioned the improvements they made on the hardware to ensure that the device will be "more comfortable, reliable, and natural."

They also noted that they are bringing pre-production kits to more developers so that more content can be developed that take into account the use of the Oculus Touch. Pre-orders, according to the post, will be starting a few months before the launch, which is said to be within the second half of 2016.

Aside from hardware, the Oculus Team also promised that more "groundbreaking content" will be arriving with the Oculus Rift and the Oculus Touch.

The Oculus Touch was unveiled in June 2015. The hand controller makes use of a system that lets the user navigate through VR in a more natural way. It is composed of two grips, one for each hand. Each gift is able to get "motion-based input, physical controls and haptic feedback."

According to a report in Engadget, when using the Touch, users can sometimes feel what they touch in the VR world.
