One Direction members Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik were caught smoking a marijuana joint in a video leaked this week. The British boy band's family-friendly image could be in jeopardy as the boys are seen joking, cursing, making fun of police and smoking while leaving a show in Peru.

One Direction members Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik were headed out from Estadio Nacional in Lima, Peru on April 27 after performing as part of their Where We Are tour. While traveling, Tomlinson taped himself and Malik smoking and joking around.

"Where's the lighter? Can anybody pass me a lighter please?" Tomlinson says to the three crew members in the van with him. "I want to light up."

Once he finally manages to light the joint and coughs a bit, the 22-year-old isn't shy about what he's doing.

"So here we are, leaving Peru. Joint lit. Happy days … What do you think Zayn? About that kind of content?" Tomlinson says, turning the camera on his band mate.

"Very controversial," Zayn replies.

The video, which was first obtained by Daily Mail, has been edited for time, but later on Tomlinson clarifies that the substance they are smoking is marijuana.

"Zayn takes his job very seriously," Tomlinson jokes. "He makes sure he goes through a two-hour intense warm up regime before every show, just to get himself in the zone. One very, very important factor to Zayn's warm up, of course is Mary Jane herself. In fact I'm presenting it to him now for some fantastic singing."

"He's having a look," Tomlinson says of a police officer riding a motorbike near the van. "He's thinking. I'm sure I can smell an illegal substance in there. And he's hit the nail on the head."

Marijuana isn't legal in Peru, but having or smoking marijuana is not punishable by law if the user has less than eight grams.

The video has since gone viral, with some questioning One Direction's usual target demographic— most of the English boy band's fans are young teenage girls. None of the members have commented on the video, however.

"The matter is in the hands of our lawyers," a representative for the band stated Tuesday.
