OS X Yosemite Release Date Expected Oct. 16, 2014 During Apple Event Keynote Speech

The OS X Yosemite is Apple's upcoming operating system for Macinstosh computers. Yosemite is the eleventh major release of the OS X and was first announced during the WWDC 2014 June earlier this year. Additionally, the beta was released to developers early June and to public beta testers later that month.

As for the release, OS X Yosemite could be out and available coming next week on Oct. 16. The Gold Master version of the OS was already released to developers and invites were already sent for a press launch on the said date. While the press conference is likely for the iPad Mini 3 and the iPad Air 2, the OS X Yosemite could also be getting its debut.

When it comes out, the OS will be available free for all Apple users.

As for new features, Yosemite has been given a redesign with Apple says it has a "fresh and modern" look where controls are "clearer, smarter, and easier to understand." The redesign has already been rolled out on iTunes, a week ahead of the release of the actual operating system.

OS X Yosemite is also looking to merge the iOS and the Mac OS together in a sort of continuity with each other. Apparently, when a mobile device like the iPhone or iPad is near a Mac, a feature called Handsoff will activate, allowing the user to start something on one device and continue on another when the need arises.

Text messages and calls can now also be answered on Macintosh computers whenever an iPhone is near the Mac.

Apple's web browser, Safari, has also been given a new streamlined design. Privacy features have also been improved with the inclusion of the new Private Browsing windows as well as built-in support for DuckDuckGo, a non-tracking search engine. Apple claims that the new Safari is six times faster than Firefox and five times faster than Google Chrome when running JavaScript usually found in websites.
