Oslo Woman Puts TV, 42 Inches, Under Skirt and Leaves Store
A woman in Oslo was arrested after shoplifting a 42-inch TV in a most unusual way. Authorities said she carried the TV out underneath a long skirt and managed to escape to a bus stop.
Once a witness realized what had happened, he alerted authorities, who followed the woman to a local bus stop. Officials then followed the bus and managed to retrieve the woman from the bus and take her to jail. She will face charges of theft, though it is unknown whether the store will officially press charges.
"It's not unusual that thieves put bits and bobs under their skirts or large sweaters," policeman Tor Grottom told The Local.
It's true that women and sometimes men attempt to steal things by placing them under long, flowing skirts, although not everyone can get away with a 42-inch TV. In Kentucky, for example, two women were wanted for stealing fur coats by slipping them underneath clothing.
Surveillance tapes showed one woman distracting a saleswoman while "the other one takes a fur coat and puts it underneath her skirt and walks out of the store, removing it and stealing it," Det. Rob Sarrantonio told WKYT. According to officials, the coats were valued at $13,000.
And in Florida, two women managed to steal $400 worth of wine from a liquor store. As one woman distracted the clerk, the other confiscated the wine.
"She must have had something stuck in her skirt because it went real easy," storeowner Paul Mouts told the Huffington Post.
Perhaps one of the most unique cases of theft took place in Oregon. Two women managed to carry out $600 worth of gourmet cheese, including two wheels of blue cheese. Of course, this time the women did not use a skirt to commit the theft, but Whole Food owners were confounded that the women could simply walk out with that amount of food unnoticed.
