'Outlander' season 2 news, cast, spoilers: A timeline change may be affecting Briana's role this season
Season 2 of "Outlander" has already started production; however, the return of the series is not set until 2016. There have been tidbits here and there about the setting and casting on the upcoming season. It is reported that a lot of the scenes are shot in Paris and that Brianna, Jamie, and Claire's daughter will be taking some of the spotlight. However, a major rumor as of now is that the show will be deviating from the books' timeline, and this change will most definitely impact Briana's role.
According to TVLine, a major diversion in season 2, which is supposed to follow the second book "Dragonfly in Amber," will reportedly involve scenes in the fourth book "Drums of Autum." This scene is when "Brianna has secretly followed her mother back in time to find the father she never met and the family she never knew."
Producing company Sony Pictures Television shared in a statement, "Fans of the books will know that [Brianna] first appears in the second book, Dragonfly in Amber, which corresponds to the season we are currently filming, but continues on to have several major storylines as noted in the casting search."
This has already been ultimately confirmed as the casting process is already on its way. The role of Brianna calls for a tall actress, around 5 feet 8 inches and over, who is "earthy and grounded and not girly" but "with the inexperience and vulnerability." Although the story depicts Brianna to have ginger hair, the show is willing to cast an actress of any hair color and will just turn to dyeing if needed.
The official description of Brianna Randall is said to be an American, around 20 years old and is "strong-minded, intelligent beyond her years with an effortless charm and sparkling sense of humor, traits inherited from both her mother and father. She also has a scholastic mind-set, with a healthy dose of American strength, having been born and bred in Boston under the watchful eye of professor and historian Frank Randall."
