'Outlander' season two spoilers: Claire faces gender issues, Balfe reveals
The Starz television drama series "Outlander" season two premiere is tonight, April 9 at 9 p.m. A change of scenery will greet its fans, as Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Frasier (Sam Heughan) find themselves smack in the center of the glitz and glamour of 18th-century France, an exciting change from the Scottish greenery of season one. The couple will work on infiltrating the Versailles high society as they try to ensure and protect Scotland's future.
This newest season will find our heroine struggling with a pregnancy as she juggles her two totally different lives---that with Frasier in the 1740s and the other with Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies) in 1947. She will also deal with the issue of sexism, more so in her new home in France, where Balfe explains women "were much more considered as like ornamental figures who were supposed to sit in drawing rooms and drink tea."
A strong-willed woman who saw her role as a mover of the times but kept back due to the rigid rules of society regarding the treatment of women, who were seen as the weaker race, Claire could hardly contain herself standing on the sidelines. Frasier she sees as having a more active role in society and change while she tends house and waits for him to get home so she could ask him all about his day at court.

Truly, inequality between the sexes has spanned the ages, with each generation of women having to find their place to do the work they itch to accomplish. As with Claire, an opportunity to work at a hospital will present itself, and she will grab on to that as if it were a lifeline.
The time-travel fantasy show's premiere episode will roll out a fast forward to 1947 where pregnant Claire finds herself back with Frank in a painful separation from Frasier. But the two work at rebuilding their marriage, and somewhere in that, the answer to the question of whether Black Jack is alive will be revealed.
Jack though will no longer be a central character in season two. Frasier and Claire's relationship will also become strained as they try to live with what happened during Frasier's rape in the first season and Claire adjusts to her pregnancy. This upcoming season will be more about time travel and lessons on the consequences of one's actions, and the unfolding of history.
