News of casting and a release date have slowly emerged ever since Showtime renewed "Penny Dreadful" for a third season.

Following a successful second season finale last month, the British-American Showtime horror drama series is following up with Season 3 that's reportedly scheduled to premiere in Q2 2016.

Show creator John Logan told Entertainment Weekly there may be a possibility of bringing in the famous literary character to the horror series. However, no particular actor was announced as having been chosen for the as-yet-unannounced part.

While the Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde news has yet to be confirmed, reports have also emerged Eva Green and Josh Hartnett's characters are going to fall in love when Season 3 premieres. Given that Vanessa and Ethan have been existing in their dark, desolate places for quite some time, it appears to make sense to bring them together to find some light in their situation.

Rated 8.3 out of 10 by Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB, Season 2 was reported as able to maximize its characters more intensely than before.

Season 2 saw Vanessa deluged by occult messages from Evelyn, while her power continued to grow, eventually becoming a wicked witch, courtesy of her mentor Cut-Wife, as shown during a flashback.

Vernis Diablo's secrets were unveiled in Season 2, thanks in part to Ferdinand, and Ethan departs from Mariner's Inn due to the massacre he has caused. Meanwhile Dr. Frankenstein is focused on his mission to revive Brona and bring her back from the dead.

The Nightcomers, considered the new plot twists to the season, have their tale subsequently revealed.

Other Season 2 highlights also include Sir Malcolm's demonstrations of power, and the increasing aggression of Dorian's crew.

The finale depicted the defeat of the witches and Sembene's death, with the basement creature reprimanded and sent back to the Arctic Circle. Ethan finally faced his destiny and eventually surrendered to the authorities, resulting in his deportation to America.

Showtime has yet to announce Season 3's release date, which is rumored to premiere in May 2016.
