Pepsi Enters Smartphone Market With Pepsi Phone P1 And P1s
It seems that the food business is not the only business that Pepsi wants to be in. With the announcement of the Pepsi Phone P1s, the popular Pepsi brand is going to dive into smartphones as well. According to a report in Gadgets 360, the company behind the brand has launched a crowdfunding campaign via a platform in China in order to manufacture the phones.
Pepsi has apparently allowed its brand to be used by the phone's manufacturer, Scooby Communication Equipment based in Shenzhen, China. The brand will be found not only on smartphones but also on smartphone accessories.
There will be two versions of the phone, according to the report: the Phone P1 is the regular version while another one, called the Phone P1s, is going to be compatible with China Unicom's FDD-LTE support. Apart from this difference, the two versions will share the same specs.

Both versions of the phone will have a 5.5-inch 2.5D curved display with 1,080 x 1,920 pixels resolution. Under the hood, they will be powered by a 1.7 GHz octa-core MediaTek (MT6592) chipset paired with 2 GB of RAM. Internal storage is only 16 GB but is expandable up to 64 GB through a microSD card. Main rear cameras of the phones are 13-megapixel shooters, while their selfie cameras are 5-megapixel shooters. It is powered by a 3,000 mAh battery. The phones will also sport a fingerprint reader that is located under the main camera.
Connectivity options include 4G LTE, 3G, Bluetooth, GPRS/EDGE, GPS and micro-USB. The devices have dual-SIM card slots. The manufacturer's own dido OS 6.1 which is based on the Android 5.1 Lollipop comes pre-installed with the phones.
Those who are interested to support the phone have been making their bids via jd.com in China. Right now, the handsets are available for CNY 699 or around $110. The campaign ends on December 3.
