Philadelphia 76ers news: J.P. Tokoto signs one year and Kendall Marshalls deal being finalized

To say that the Philadelphia 76ers had a rough last season would be an understatement, as the team had maintained the world record in the NBA during that time. Now the team is intent on making some prominent changes with the addition of two players, J.P. Tokoto and Kendall Marshalls.

According to HNGN, Tokoto from the University of North Carolina was the 58th selection of the Philadelphia 76ers. The deal involved a one-year non-guaranteed tender for $525,000. Following this season, he would also be allowed to become a free agent. However, depending on his performance, this could still change to a restricted one in case the 76ers will be impressed by his performance and decides to extend him.

He is the 17th player to get a contract and will be joining the training camp, in which he will have a lot of competition for his eyed position. Although a great player, many still feel that Tokoto has not reached his full potential after leaving UNC quite early, and will need a lot of work if he wishes to be ready to play in the big leagues in the NBA. Although he is top-notch in defense, being a good size of 6 foot 6, his weakness would be his offensive side.

As for Marshalls, MStarz reports that his deal had actually been quite a surprise to many. This risky move by the 76ers to a multiyear contract includes a fully guaranteed salary for the upcoming NBA season. However, Marshall is still recovering from his torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), which he suffered last January while playing with the Milwaukee Bucks. This was soon followed by a surgery in February.

He is expected to return during the first half of 2015-2016, which might be too soon considering the injury he's had. This can cause far more serious problems for Marshall, as well as for the team if they have a player who is not in top shape. However, some supporters are still optimistic that if Marshall is careful and maintains his health, then he would definitely be a good addition to the team.
