New Pokémon forms, moves, and possible link to Pokémon Go

It's just impossible to outgrow Pokémon. Twenty years since it first appeared on Game Boy, the cultural phenomenon has captured the hearts of every aspiring "trainer" who longed to be "the very best like no one ever was."

Now, hot at the heels of the augmented reality game comes Pokémon Sun and Moon, the latest entrant in Nintendo's long list of Pokémon games. It will be released on November 18, 2016 for 3DS and it already has fans waiting for its brand-new Pokémon, new regions, and a new adventure!

We've been keeping track of the rumors circling the web about the game. Here is what we know so far:

New starter Pokémon

Any trainer worth his salt knows that picking the right starter Pokémon is crucial in their quest to become the greatest. In the new trailer from the Pokémon Company, we can see new little creatures joining the litter. As usual, they come in traditional three-starter types: Rowlet, an owl-esque Grass-type; Litten, a fierce-looking Fire-type kitten; and Popplio, a cute Water-type sea lion.

There's no word out yet for the legendaries in the games; but Sun's appears to be a giant lion, while Moon gets a huge bat.

Alola region

The new game also promises new tantalizing landscapes, volcanoes and jungles with Alola region. New regions mean more Pokémon, too. In this case, not only do we get Generation 7 Pokémon, but we also get "Alola forms."

For some Pokémon, they may look quite different like in the case of Exeggutor (he comes with an extremely elongated neck, like a giraffe) and Ninetales (arguably more majestic than its standard form). Some may also come as a completely different type, as with Vulpix and Sandshrew, who become Ice-type. With the Alola forms, there's a lot more flexibility in moves and stats, which makes team creation much more exciting!

New features

For strategists, the Sun and Moon will be introducing the Z-type moves, which are extremely powerful abilities that you can only deploy once in battle. Pikachu, for example, can do "Gigabolt Havoc"; even the name sounds massively powerful.

Of course, given Pokémon Go's extreme popularity, it comes as no surprise that the Sun and Moon may have the ability to link with it. In the meantime, they're still mulling its prudence so that they don't end up making both games boring instead.

You can pre-order the game from Amazon or GAME at around $52, or you can get a Fan Edition from GAME for $57. The Fan Edition comes with a SteelBook case. Pre-ordering will also get you an exclusive figurine!
