'Power Rangers' Cast News: Reboot Movie Finally Casts Its Rita Repulsa
The pieces are already starting to fall into place now that the upcoming "Power Rangers" reboot movie has already found the actor who will play Rita Repulsa.
The official "Power Rangers" Twitter handle announced this week that the "Mockingjay Part 2" star Elizabeth Banks has signed on to portray the villain on Lionsgate's forthcoming big-screen revival of the popular 1990s kids superhero show of the same name.
"How evil @ElizabethBanks joins the #PowerRangersMovie cast as the villainous, #RitaRepulsa," the social media update reads.
Banks is by far the biggest name to be attached to the new project as the entire cast of the titular characters is made up of relatively newcomers.
For those who missed it, this is the cast lineup for the new "Power Rangers."
Jason – as the Red Ranger/Tyrannosaurus; character to be played by Dacre Montgomery
Kimberly – as the Pink Ranger/Pterodactyl; character to be played by Naomi Scott from "The Martian"
Billy – as the Blue Ranger/Triceratops; character to be played by RJ Cyler
Zack – as the Black Ranger/Mastodon; character to be played by Ludi Lin
Trini – as the Yellow Ranger/Sabre-Tooth Tiger; character to be played by Becky G.
Dean Israelite, whose movie credits include the 2015 film "Project Almanac," is tapped to direct the film which is being produced by Haim Saban.
For the uninitiated, Rita Repulsa is a sorceress who wants nothing but to dominate the whole universe including Earth. The character was originally played by actresses Machiko Soga and Carla Perez in the small screen with the voice-in participation of Barbara Goodson.
Fans may already be familiar as to how the villainess makes the lives of the heroes a living hell. She does so by summoning a monster and then makes it grow to gargantuan proportions with the help of her magic wand.
The overall plot of the film is yet to be announced. Earlier reports indicated that "Power Rangers" is slated to arrive in theaters by 2017.
Stay tuned for more updates.
