'Pretty Little Liars' Season 6B Spoilers: What Has Become of The 'Liars' After Five Years?
Fans of the ABC Family television series "Pretty Little Liars" are eager to see their favorite show which is scheduled for a winter premiere on January 12. It has been a while since they saw the "liars" on the small screen, but before their return, ABC Family aired a "5 Years Forward" special that gave fans a sneak peek of the upcoming second half of Season 6. According to a report in Variety, the girls and showrunner I. Marlene King revealed interesting tidbits about what happened to the girls five years after, which is the setting of the upcoming episodes.
In the summer finale episode which ended the first half of the season, the identity of their tormentor, "A" was discovered to be that of CeCe Drake (played by Vanessa Ray). According to the report, this second half of the season will find the "liars," who are currently living their own lives outside of their small town, brought together again by mysterious messages. Showrunner King said that the young women are entering "more dangerous territory" than before.
During the special, the actresses who played the main characters shared what had happened in the lives of their characters five years after they went their separate ways.
Hanna, played by Ashley Benson, went into the fashion world after moving to New York. Although her decision to enter into fashion was somehow due to her high school boyfriend's suggestion, she ends up becoming engaged to another man whom she met during her stint in Europe. When Season 6B starts, Hanna and Caleb are no longer the couple they were back in high school.
Another couple, Spencer (Troian Bellisario) and Toby (Keegan Allen) also went their separate ways. Spencer spent the last five years studying in Georgetown and then working on Capitol Hill, something that she has always wanted. Toby, on the other hand, chose to remain in the small town after getting a big inheritance and built a dream home in a big property just outside of Rosewood. According to the report, Toby will be in another relationship in the coming episodes.
One of the parents has passed away and this happens to be the father of Emily (Shay Mitchell). She ends up going back to Rosewood after her father died. Since she left Pepperdine to go back home, she was not able to get a degree and had to take a bartending job. According to King, Emily is the one who comes back to town with "the biggest secret," bigger than any of the other girls.
Aria (Lucy Hale) is working in publishing after earning a degree in writing and, ironically, she is working with her former teacher and ex-boyfriend Ezra (Ian Harding). She will also be in a new relationship, with a character named Liam.
As for Ezra, he is a totally different person because of his struggle with alcoholism. King described his character as the one with the "most emotional baggage" and the one with "most damage."
