Project Ara Release Date: Is This Modular Phone the Device We've All Been Waiting For?

Since acquiring the project from Motorola last year, Project Ara has been in full swing in the past few months. In fact, last year, Google already mentioned some details about the smartphone.

One of the main points which made consumers even more excited is the starting price for Project Ara's base model, which is $50. There are also three different screen or phone sizes to choose from, and the bigger the device the more modules that can be placed on it.

During Google's I/O Conference last week, the company once again showed the audience the Project Ara. In the event, the device was not only showcased, but was proven to be working.

It was Google's ATAP team who was responsible for the Project Ara segment, and Google engineer Rafa Camargo even started with the base model and added the different modules one by one.

After adding all of the modules available for the device, he showed to the audience that it is completely working. In fact, Camargo reportedly took a picture of the audience using his prototype's camera.

Project Ara, whose concept originally came from PhoneBloks, enables a person to freely choose the type of specifications ne needs for his smartphone. Some of the modules that will be available include camera sensors, processor, camera, RAM or battery.

Based on previous reports, the Project Ara smartphone will first hit Puerto Rico later this year.
