The 820 chip's 64-bit Kryo CPU is able to manage up to 2.2 GHz, resulting in better performance and battery life of the smartphone. The Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 also allows for four times the speed of charging, Latin Post reports.

The Adreno 530 GPU, X12 LTE modem, and Hexagon 680 DSP all serve to give clearer graphic, plus better compute capabilities and power usage. The report adds.

Among the upcoming flagship phones, which will reportedly run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, is the Samsung Galaxy S7. The South Korean tech firm is considering using the new chip in half of its flagship units, while the other half will come with its Exynos 7420 processor, the report details.

Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkopf's statement during the company's recent earnings call confirms that many premium smartphones will carry the 820 chipset in 2016. He said 60 prototype devices are now being tested with the new processor, but he did not confirm if all of the said devices will be released to the public.

Jim McGregor, a principal analyst from Tirias Research, said new devices with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset will begin coming out in April 2016.

Smartphone manufacturers are expected to announce the devices that will come with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 during February's Mobile World Congress.
