'Rainbow Six Siege' News: Microtransactions Explained
Game developer Ubisoft has finally provided details about the microtransactions that players need to do when it releases its upcoming game, "Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege," on December 1. In the run up to the launch date, Ubisoft has repeatedly mentioned that the game will have such transactions which players have to do in order to aid their progress in the game. According to Tech Times, the details include information about the kinds of in-game currency and how to acquire them, as well as the items that are available for purchase with this currency. New items are expected to be introduced when DLCs are released every three months from the game's launch date.
According to the report, the game will have two types of currency: the Renown, which is earned by logging and playing the game, and the R6, which is the one that needs to be bought with real money.
Renown is earned by playing the game, from winning to losing matches, making kills and assists, reviving teammates, completing Daily Challenges, watching tutorials or playing ranked matches. However, if a player kills his teammates, this has a negative effect on the player's Renown. Every hour of gaming is said to earn a player 1,000 Renown.
As for the R6, Ubisoft says they come in packs of 600, 1,200, 2,670, 4,920 and 7,560. The pack of 600 will set back a player $4.99. The larger the pack one gets, the more credit per dollar, meaning one saves more if a larger pack is availed.
Although Renowns cannot be purchased by real money, players can purchase what is called a Renown Booster, which helps players earn the currency faster. Daily Challenges will also offer up more Renown if the player is able to complete them. "These might include, for example, eliminating a certain number of opponents in a single match, performing a set number of headshots, or winning a number of matches or rounds," says Ubisoft.
In-game currency can then be used to purchase new characters or operators as they are called in the game, and weapon skins. These new content will come every three months starting in January with the new expansion packs. The report details how new operators and skins can be unlocked with in-game currency.
