"Real Housewives of New York" star Ramona Singer announced her separation from her husband Mario on Thursday, months after she vowed to save her marriage.

The socialite, 57, took to social networking site Twitter yesterday to reveal the news to her 425,000 followers.

Earlier this year, the couple made efforts to salvage their 25-year marriage in the wake of infidelity reports; however, these efforts proved unsuccessful. Earlier this week Mario, 60, was photographed enjoying a lunch date with his alleged mistress, which prompted Ramona's tweet.

"I have decided to move on with my life without Mario. I tried my best to make my marriage work. I am excited for the new chapter in my life," Ramona tweeted on Thursday.

In March the Bravo TV star turned to her faith in a bid to save her crumbling marriage, and she shared a biblical tweet that sparked reconciliation rumors. At the time, Mario was accused of having an extramarital affair with 27-year-old socialite Kelsey Dexter, the same woman in the recently published photos.

"Having an open door in front of you means having an opportunity before you. ~ Revelation 3:8," Ramona tweeted on March 24.

The tweet relates to Revelation 3:8, which touches on the importance of upholding one's faith even during one's darkest hours.

"I know your deeds. Behold, I have put before you an open door which no one can shut, because you have a little power, and have kept My word, and have not denied My name," the Bible verse Revelation 3:8 reads.

Just days prior, Ramona, who desperately wanted to avoid divorce, spoke about having "strong family values" in an exclusive interview with the Christian Post. At the season 6 premiere of "Housewives," the Manhattan-based Entrepreneur was asked about why she believes viewers continue to connect with her after so many seasons on the show.

"I'm genuine, I'm real and I really say what I think. Sometimes it does get me into trouble but the viewers respect my forthrightness, my honesty and my morals," Ramona told CP. "[Viewers] know I'm a strong businesswoman with strong family values and moral values. They know I'm a great mom and a great wife and a great friend."

Sonya Mazur, who is Ramona's estranged sister, recently weighed in on Ramona's marital woes. She expressed shock and disappointment regarding Mario's alleged infidelity.

"I never thought Mario would do something like this to my sister. I can't believe this happened, period," Mazur told RadarOnline.com. "I'm shocked to hear she's going to leave. I think it's unbelievable. I thought they were the perfect couple."
