Rear Your Kids in a Church Community

Every parent wants their children to grow up to become good citizens whom they can be proud of someday. Having high hopes for one's child is normal, but sustaining those dreams is often left unfulfilled due primarily to the failure of parents to follow through on their responsibilities.

The Bible instructs parents to train their children in the way they should go so that when they grow up they will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6). Christians should follow this instruction dutifully by laying the foundation of goodness and fear of God in their children's heart.

The time to do this is during the early stages when their young minds are influenced easily. The best place to do it is at church, where they will be introduced to the concept of God at an early age. This, however, will take commitment from the parents and would even involve altering their schedules.

In order to raise children in the church community, parents have to make the church their second home. This means the family has to constantly be in church not only on Sundays but several times a week. This can be done by becoming active in church activities. For what other reason will there be to hang out in church?

By making the church a second home, the people there — from the pastors down to the workers and members — will become an extended family. This is the easiest way for the child to accustom him/herself to the environment and the people around it. Everything he knows will be rooted in the church's teachings.

School will eventually become their second home in a couple of years, but by then the child is already comfortable in the church environment. He has established friends who would be part of his growing up years. His concept of right and wrong is more advanced than his classmates'.
