Rihanna Perfume Ad Banned in UK for Being 'Sexually Suggestive'
Rihanna has been banned from the U.K. for being too provocative.
Rihanna, the 26-year-old Barbadian pop star, has created a perfume called Rogue. In a new advertisement, the singer is seen laying on the floor while her bare legs are propped against a gigantic perfume bottle with the help of stiletto heels.
However, the fact that the singer has little more than those stilettos in the nearly nude advertisement has the British Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) ruling against the singer's advertisement being presented in the United Kingdom, according to BBC News reports.
The agency called Rihanna's add too "provocative" and "sexually suggestive," in a ruling Wednesday, the BBC reports.
"While we did not consider the image to be overtly sexual, we considered that Rihanna's pose, with her legs raised in the air, was provocative," the ASA stated, according to BBC. "Because of this, and the fact that Rihanna appeared to be naked except for high heels, we concluded that the ad was sexually suggestive and should have been given a placement restriction to reduce the possibility of it being seen by children."
The ruling came two days after Rihanna showed up to the CFDA awards in little more than Swarvoski crystals. After being introduced by Vogue magazine editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, the singer who is no stranger to controversy revealed how she uses fashion as a defense mechanism.
"Growing up I didn't have a lot of access to fashion. But as far as I could remember, fashion has always been my defense mechanism," Rihanna said while accepting her fashion icon award at the CFDA event. "Even as a child I remember thinking, 'She can beat me, but she cannot beat my outfit.' And to this day, I mean, that is how I think about it."
While Rihanna acknowledged that there are rules in the fashion world she said, "rules are meant to be broken."
