Robert Pattinson Talks Downside of Fame: 'It's Difficult to Meet People'

Robert Pattinson recently opened up about his life as a celebrity and the challenges of being a famous actor.

The British actor, 27, rose to worldwide stardom in 2008 following his breakout role as Edward Cullen in the film adaptations of the "Twilight" novels, and his life has never been the same. While Pattinson is said to be passionate about his craft, the actor revealed that it is often difficult to meet new people even after his split from his "Twilight" costar, Kristen Stewart.

"Fame is a fight to survive! Some people can't take it and freak out, but I can understand that," he told GQ Italy. "With paps hiding everywhere, it's really difficult to meet new people and have new experiences."

While Pattinson's celebrity status has increased over the years, the actor revealed that his friendship circle has remained consistent. The "Maps To The Stars" actor did not know many people upon his move to the U.S., but his relationship with Stewart helped him expand his social circle.

"When I got to the U.S. for Twilight, I only knew people who gave me a ride since I couldn't drive. They're my oldest friends," he said.

The notoriously private actor has been more open about his private life in recent months following his May split from Stewart, 23. He recently opened up about the type of boyfriend he is in relationships.

"I'm quite sensitive, and I do like a bit of grand gesturing, but that's just my ego. I like to give people presents and I think of myself as the best gift giver, but only because I get stuff for myself and then make it work for the other person," Pattinson joked to Australia's Sunday Style magazine.

In 2012 Stewart, who dated Pattinson for four years, admitted to cheating on him with a married man. The British actor was reportedly left devastated, but they continued dating and fans questioned why the breach of trust did not push Pattinson to immediately end the relationship.

"There's not very much that really bothers me. I don't ever feel the need to forgive or expect people to be. I judge people on their actions," Pattinson said alluding to his decision not to break up with Stewart after her affair.

"I don't really care if it's wrong or right, I give them the benefit of the doubt. If they do something I can't be bothered to deal with, I just cut them out," he explained.
