Ronda Rousey vs. Holly Holm: 'Rowdy' Expects Rematch To Happen Before Year Ends
Former UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has declared that her rematch against current title-holder Holly Holm would be happening before the year ends.
Rousey was dethroned by Holm via a second round head kick knockout during their main event bout at UFC 193 on November 15th, in front of a record-setting 56,000 fans at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. It marked "Rowdy's" first professional mixed martial arts career loss since she began in 2011.
She currently holds a record of 12-1, with all of her victories ending by stoppage. Nine of those wins were completed through her patented armbar submission. During the post-fight press conference of the said event, both Holm and UFC president Dana White agreed that Rousey would be given an immediate rematch.
But since Rousey has been deemed unavailable until the second half of the year, Holm was recently pitted against former two-time title challenger Miesha Tate. Holm and Tate will now be fighting at the co-main event bout of UFC 197 in March.
A lightweight title fight between champion Rafael dos Anjos and 145-pound king Conor McGregor will headline the card.
Rousey is currently serving her six-month medical suspension and has kept herself busy shooting films. Her upcoming project would be a remake of the 1980's classic "Road House," where she holds the starring role.
TMZ recently caught up with Rousey at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), where she was asked about her plans about her next career move, particularly her rematch with Holm.
She did offer straighforward responses. In the report, Rousey first stated that she intends to face Holm "some time later in the year". She also clarified that the UFC has not yet given her a date or location yet.
"It's a decision we're all gonna make together, but I'm kind of waiting to hear from them what options they're gonna give me," Rousey said.
