Rose McGowan Enjoys 'Strong' Roles, Prepares for 2nd Afghanistan Visit
“Conan the Barbarian” actress Rose McGowan is making a trip to Afghanistan this year. She is going on her second USO tour to visit troops serving in the country.
McGowan plans to go to “increase the morale of the soldiers who often feel forgotten after long periods of time away from home.”
McGowan went to the country last year to rally the troops and says that she found the experience extremely rewarding.

McGowan told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column, “The last time I was in Afghanistan, it was my favorite trip I’ve ever had, and I’ve had some amazing trips in my life. But it’s bizarre to me that it would make anyone happy that I’m there. But I think I represent home. That’s all, it’s not about me.”
She added, “They really get sad and forget because they feel like people have forgotten them, so I’m just a representative, a vessel, showing that people are thinking of them.”
The actress, who spent nine years of her youth in Italy, has also been making headlines for her statements in the recent issue of People magazine about growing up in a cult known as the Children of God, and has also been garnering attention for her new a role in the film, “Conan the Barbarian,” in which she plays a witch.
The role required Rose to spend six hours behind a makeup chair to be created into the evil witch known as Marique.
McGowan has been cited as an actress that notoriously plays strong roles and has said of the character, “This character is certainly evil, but she’s got layers and levels of schism and personality. It’s not just evil for the sake of being evil.”
Playing strong women does not bother Rose and she believes society confuses the portrayal of strength with evilness. She has said of her roles and acting style, “I kind of just play strong women, and I think that often people tend to confuse that with evil.”
