Russian Cannibal Couple Allegedly Responsible for Eating 30 People
A couple in Russia who were discovered to be cannibals could be responsible for the deaths of at least 30 people.
Dmitry, 35, and Natalia Baksheyev, 42, a couple living in Krasnodar in southern Russia, were found to be practicing cannibalism for about 20 years and could be accountable for the deaths of 30 people, The Moscow Times confirmed from LiveKuban.
Dmitry confessed to authorities that he and his wife had indulged in cannibalism multiple times when police discovered the dismembered body of a 35-year-old woman from Krasnodar wrapped in a bag in proximity to the academy where he is currently employed in.
The suspect said that they've practiced cannibalism at least 30 times in over 20 years.
Police conducted a search at the Baksheyev residence and found eight body parts — some of them kept in jars with saline for preservation — along with a video tutorial about cannibalism.
According to investigators, Dmitry and Natalia might have made their victims unconscious with sedatives and skinned them alive before dismembering the body parts and eating them, The Washington Post reports.
The Baksheyev couple might have even tried to convert the soldiers at the academy where Dmitry was employed into cannibals by mixing "canned human meat" into their meals.
Dmitry has been charged with one count of murder. However, there are speculations that authorities have already discovered remains of seven people in the Baksheyev residence.
What lead authorities to Dmitry was a lost cell phone that was surrendered to police authorities last Sept. 11. It had selfies of him posing with a dismembered hand and stock photos of severed body parts and decapitated heads.
At first, Dmitry made an excuse that he just took photos with the severed body parts he found in a dumpster and later lost his phone.
Since their capture, Natalia had gone psychiatric tests and was found to be mentally healthy, the Daily Mail confirmed.
